THE TEAM
We are a bunch of people who want to clean up the world. 50% are located in Aachen, 50% work remotely: call us digital 😉 We love our Interdisciplinarity: we come from fields like biology, engineering, architecture, business administration, journalism or history: we think outside of the box, all united in our love for our waters.

everwave’s approach is holistic. It’s not just about collecting waste with cleanup technologies like our garbage boats and river platforms. It’s thinking ahead & gathering data. With the four pillars “Detect, Collect, Recycle, Inspire”, the startup closes the waste loop and solves a global problem. It gives companies the opportunity to take responsibility and with their financial contribution, environmental change can be realized. With the connection of AI and waste, knew insights are gained, that will help the whole maritime
sector on a long-term sight to tackle the global waste problem.
THE VISION
Our vision is a neverending story: we want to recover as many tons of trash as possible from the waters. For this our garbage boat fleet will grow, we will inspire a bunch of people to tackle plastic pollution with and and we will build up recycling infrastructure at every cleanup site we are working. But one of our biggest challenges is …
THE VISION
Our vision is a neverending story: we want to recover as many tons of trash as possible from the waters. For this our garbage boat fleet will grow, we will inspire a bunch of people to tackle plastic pollution with and and we will build up recycling infrastructure at every cleanup site we are working. But one of our biggest challenges is to find out, where to clean up. So… can we solve this with AI?
Admittedly: We already use drones and cameras connected to AI on our garbage boats together with the DFKI. It scans the waste and tells us exactly what we are collecting (Metal, Glass, PET, LDPE…).
But our new project “PlasticObs+” takes it to a new level. Head of Research Dr. Tilman Flöhr explains: “In this project, we and our partners are developing an artificially intelligent measuring system that records and evaluates the distribution of plastic waste on the water surface.” The technology can be integrated into already existing systems, like routine flights for oil monitoring, environmental monitoring or coastal protection. So the technology is not only used on drones – as before – but also on aircraft. They not only fly more frequently, but also cover much longer distances. In this way, we collect more data than before and know where we have to go with our cleanup technologies.
