At the beginning of the year we wrote down some thoughts about the place of PIRATE Summit in the startup event world. This is what we wrote.π
Startup events are often performative art – showing an idealized version of yourself, a version that is not real. π ββοΈ The focus is on constantly selling yourself by highlighting your achievements, your success, your hustle.
And we get it. To keep going with your business you have to sell. In the beginning, that means a lot of fake it till you make it. This makes sense for connections that are based on transactions. π
If you are constantly role-playing another longing arises. The longing for relationships and true connection. Because let’s admit it, we are all trying to figure life out. Life is messy and complex. Especially as an entrepreneur.
It feels good to know others feel the same. One of the house rules of PIRATE Summit is No BS. π΄ββ οΈ It encourages people to be themselves and connect on a human-to-human level. As such, it is a place for authenticity, integrity, vulnerability, and honest reflection.Β
We have always considered PIRATE Summit as an event focused on long-term relationships instead of transactions. π€ In the long-run, authenticity wins. That’s because people connect more with your grit than your shine.
PIRATE Summit is about stepping out of oneβs comfort zone, by exposing participants to ideas and experiences that they might not have considered before. Helping them to see, explore and experience new parts of themselves and the world around them.Β
Few events, or none that we can think of, provide such an opportunity for personal growth and self-awareness and connect it with business and entrepreneurship. PIRATE Summit is the place to connect with others and yourself in a meaningful way. π
PIRATE Summit is happening this year on September 6-7 in Cologne, Germany. If you are an entrepreneur, and this speaks to you, you should join.
